When New Day began in 2010, one of the requests from our local community was that we provide them with a grinding mill and a small store. Virtually every Zambian is a farmer – growing their own maize to eat and to sell. Our community lacked a grinding mill where people could bring their maize to be ground; instead, villagers were walking over 5 miles to grind maize.

The New Day Shop provides basic necessities at a low cost to the people coming to grind maize. From cooking oil and salt to lotion and batteries, the New Day Shop is a bustling place on most days!

The grinding mill and shop have been an excellent way to show the people around us, who are often suspicious of outsiders, that we are here to help. It is our hope that they will see our love for them, and that it will point them to the love of the Savior!
